Design system
Polaris Kit
An accessible, composable React UI library. Components, design tokens, and theming in a Turborepo monorepo.
Explore the project
The interactive documentation presents the library in Storybook. The repository brings together packages, the organization of tokens and themes, and the development, testing, and release workflow.
Technologies
React and TypeScript underpin the components and their public interfaces. Turborepo coordinates the monorepo, and Storybook documents the library in an interactive environment. Tokens and theme packages share the visual language, while Vitest and Changesets support testing and publishing.

About the project
Polaris Kit is a React UI library focused on composition, accessibility, and visual consistency. Rather than concentrating every decision in a single package, it separates components, design tokens, and themes. This organization lets interfaces share a visual foundation while each application composes the components according to its own needs.
The library also provides infrastructure for interface development. Storybook offers a place to explore components, and documentation published through Chromatic follows the monorepo code. The aim is to bring usage, documentation, and maintenance closer together: developers building a screen can work with the same components and visual language that guide the library.
What it does
- 01
Modular packages for React components, design tokens, and themes. This separation allows component interfaces and the visual language to evolve without mixing their responsibilities.
- 02
Light and dark themes backed by a shared visual foundation. Tokens and themes provide the elements for keeping colors and other design decisions coherent across interfaces.
- 03
Interactive Storybook documentation published on Chromatic. The documentation application is part of the monorepo and follows the components during development.
- 04
Vitest tests and a versioning and release workflow using Changesets. Continuous integration also brings together linting, type checking, builds, and documentation publishing.
How it's built
The monorepo uses Turborepo and pnpm to organize packages and the documentation application. The React package contains components, the tokens package holds design values, and the themes package provides the foundation for light and dark modes. This division makes each part of the system's role explicit.
The maintenance workflow includes Vitest tests, type checking, and package builds. Changesets organizes versioning and releases, while continuous integration brings these steps together with Storybook publishing. The architecture follows a composition-first philosophy and aims to keep the experience consistent for both library users and contributors.
